Zee became an #IWill Ambassador in 2017. Read their social action journey:
“I first got involved in social action by volunteering at the age of 15 with Girlguiding as I wanted to help other young people to do fun things and enjoy their lives, and give back to the community.
It’s challenging, as within the Scottish Borders it can be difficult to engage with young people as it is such a wide and rural area, so I haven't interacted & campaigned with as many young people as those in other areas.
A lot of the social action I do now is relating to LGBT+ activism and there always is a slight fear of discrimination or of people not taking you seriously because you are LGBT+. However, I campaigned within my high school & local authority area to allow same sex couples to dance together in physical education and ended up changing the whole council's policy! I then set up the first LGBT+ action group within my high school.
I am now a Member of Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) (previously for Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale - now LGBT Youth Scotland), Convenor of SYP's Equalities & Human Rights Committee, Member of the LGBT National Youth Council, and I do campaigning for awareness of period poverty. I also campaign for mental health, encouraging health practitioners to consider young people, and LGBT+ people in their services.”
