GIRFEC Refresh Consultations – Get involved

Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) supports families by making sure children and young people can receive the right help, at the right time, from the right people.

The aim is to help them to grow up feeling loved, safe and respected so that they can realise their full potential.

GIRFEC is central to all Scottish Government policies which support children, young people and their families and is delivered through services and people who work with young people and families.

GIRFEC is implemented in partnership with local delivery partners (local authorities, health boards and the third sector), by providing access to early help, planning and co-ordination of services where beneficial.

The overall GIRFEC approach is unchanged but guidance is being refreshed and updated. The Scottish Government wishes to consult with key stakeholders to ensure that the materials provide practitioners with the confidence, clarity and practical support to deliver GIRFEC.

There are two different consultations on the refreshed documents:

Statutory Guidance - out for public consultation on Citizen Space - 1 November to 4 February.

Non-Statutory Guidance - out for stakeholder consultation with responses through intermediaries (YouthLink Scotland) 1 November to 10 December.

  • GIRFEC Policy Statement.
  • Practice Guidance on the role of the named person.
  • Practice Guidance on the role of the lead professional.
  • Practice Guidance on using the National Practice Model.
  • Practice Guidance on Information Sharing, and the Information Sharing Charter.
