YouthLink Scotland Annual Report: A Year Like No Other

As we come to the end of a year like no other, we are proud to have supported Scotland’s youth work sector to meet the unprecedented challenges of Covid-19. Our annual report looks back on an extraordinary period for Scotland’s young people, where Scotland’s youth workers were #NeverMoreNeeded.

Highlights from this year’s report include our work on the development of a new National Youth Work Strategy, which has seen us consult with over 3,000 youth workers and young people so far.

It also saw the launch of our #InvestInYouthWork campaign, a clear and important call from the sector to ensure the importance of youth work was recognised and matched by appropriate funding.

The subsequent spread of Covid-19, of course, changed priorities worldwide. We saw a 4000% increase in the number of inquiries from youth work organisations for digital youth work support, culminating in our first Digital Youth Work Summit.

We’ve worked closely with Scottish Government and key sector stakeholders to develop a raft of guidelines, reports and resources to help youth workers adapt to the ‘new normal’. through our Covid-19 portal.

We’ve worked closely with our partners Young Scot and Scottish Youth Parliament to roll out Lockdown Lowdown to ensure young people’s voices are heard in the Scottish Government’s ongoing policy response to Covid-19.

Through the launch of the £3m Youth Work Education Recovery Fund, the £250,000 Digital Inclusion Fund and the £2m Covid-19 Residential Outdoor Education Centre Recovery Fund, we’ve helped ensure vital government funding is reaching the areas of the sector which need it most.

Finally, we were all able to come together as a sector from the comfort of our own homes as we hosted our first ever online National Youth Work Conference earlier this month, with over 200 delegates joining us in imagining a new future for the sector!

What’s been most striking is the enduring resilience of youth workers and organisations across Scotland whose vital services have adapted and thrive in the most challenging of circumstances. We are profoundly proud to represent you!

Join us in looking back at a year like no other.
