Young STEM Leaders Programme Information Sessions
Book your place to find out more about the Young STEM Leaders (YSL) programme and how your youth project can get involved.
It's a great opportunity to recognise what young people are doing already with STEM and leadership, as well as get support to build more STEM into your youth work. You don't have to be working across the full breadth of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, and you can invite STEM ambassadors to come in to help you to deliver those aspects.
What’s Young STEM Leaders?
An exciting new programme which aims to spark greater interest and participation in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) among young people is being piloted in Scotland.
Children and young people have the chance to inspire, lead and mentor their peers through the creation and delivery of STEM activities, events and interactions within their school, Early Years Centres or local community groups.
The key aim of the Young STEM Leader (YSL) programme will be to facilitate the development of peer STEM role models to inspire more young people to develop an interest in STEM and pursue the study of STEM subjects and relevant future careers.
In its Strategy for STEM Education and Training (2017), the Scottish Government has committed to ‘establish a new Young STEM Leaders programme to stimulate and strengthen the development of peer mentoring and inspiration in STEM for children and young people by children and young people.’
So far there are events confirmed in Dumfries, Thurso, Inverness and Newton Stewart, with more to come all over Scotland in January and February. Sign up here.
