The Trust looks after a charitable fund from which grants to organisations working with young people in the Edinburgh and Lothian area are distributed. Grants are usually in the region of £1,000 to £2,000 maximum.

Grants are designed to help improve the lives of vulnerable, disabled and disadvantaged young people in the Edinburgh and Lothians area and provide a general benefit for a defined community or group of young people in the population.

The pattern of aid has been as follows:

  • 25 to 30% on disability, health and terminal illness projects.
  • 45 to 50% on youth work, diversionary projects for young people, anti-poverty initiatives, and support of young carers; and
  • 25% to Edinburgh and Lothian Trust Fund, a trust making grants to individual young people in need.

Grants are distributed to a mix of established national or regional voluntary organisations and small local organisations. There is no deadline date and organisations can apply once a year. The Trust meets quarterly in January, April, July and October. Applications must be submitted by email using the  application form which is available on the Trust's website, and also includes guidance notes.
