Better Breaks provides 12 month grants to third sector organisations in Scotland to develop and deliver short breaks projects and services for disabled children and young people (aged 20 and under), and their carers (adult carers and/or young carers). The fund opens for applications each year in the autumn.
The programme funds a wide range of short breaks projects and services, including activities and breaks for:
- Disabled children and young people without their carers.
- Families to enjoy together.
- Carers (adult/parent carers and/or young/sibling carers) without the child or young person they care for.
- Young/sibling carers with the person they care for.
Short breaks projects and activities can include breaks away (including overnight stays and residential breaks), days out, and/or shorter sessions (including regular activities).
To be eligible for funding, projects must be able to evidence how their activities will benefit both disabled children and young people and their carers, by providing a break from their normal routine.
The Better Breaks round for 2022-2023 is now open and the deadline for applications is 18 November 2021. A total of around £1million is available and grants are for one year from April 2022 until March 2023. Please see the website for applicant support workshops and call in sessions.
