Better Breaks provides 12 month grants to third sector organisations in Scotland to develop and deliver short breaks projects and services for children and young people with disabilities (aged 20 and under), and their carers (adult carers and/or young carers). The fund opens for applications each year in the autumn.
The programme funds a wide range of short breaks projects and services, including activities and breaks for:
- Children and young people with disabilities without their carers.
- Families to enjoy together.
- carers (adult/parent carers and/or young/sibling carers) without the child or young person they care for.
Short breaks projects and activities can include breaks away (including overnight stays and residential breaks), days out, and/or shorter sessions (including regular activities).
To be eligible for funding, projects must be able to evidence how their activities will benefit both children and young people with disabilities and their carers, by providing a break from their normal routine.
The Better Breaks round for 2019-2020 has now closed and the next round will open in the autumn of 2019.
