Food insecurity and learning loss webinar

Back to events

Scottish Government Tackling Food Insecurities Unit and YouthLink Scotland invite you to a webinar to share learning from an exciting piece of work delivered during 2020.

The webinar will build on the launch of the Food Insecurity and Learning Loss report. The report outlines findings from a Scottish Government and YouthLink Scotland pilot of six youth work programmes to help tackle food insecurity during the school summer holiday period in 2020.

The pilot co-ordinated the provision of food alongside innovative youth work activity, relieving some of the financial pressure on families and enabling them to enjoy preparing food and eating together in a dignified way.

The independent evaluation of the project demonstrated the wider impacts on young people’s mental wellbeing, engagement with learning and skills development. Researchers also gathered insights around how the youth workers used food and activities to identify and address hidden needs and make new connections with families who were struggling. This holistic approach to delivery generated positive outcomes for young people and families.

At the event, the research consultants will present their key findings and participants will hear from some of the projects who will share their insights and learning. There will be opportunity for participants to discuss the findings and consider how this approach could support their own work.
