YouthLink Scotland Policy Seminar

Back to events

We are delighted to welcome a range of excellent speakers on the topic of the incorporation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into Scots Law and youth works role. Attendees of this event will hear from our keynote speaker Maree Todd MSP, Minister for Children and Young People, who will provide an update on the consultation which closes on Wednesday 14th August.

Attendees will also hear from Dr Kasey McCall-Smith, Lecturer in Public International Law and currently involved in a multi-year project examining variable international law issues relating to detention operations and military commissions in Guantánamo Bay as well as the implementation of children’s rights in Scotland.

Additionally, Migrant Youth, LGBT Youth Scotland and Jack Dudgeon MSYP will be sharing their thoughts and insights on the day. A panel Q&A session and thematic networking will give attendees the opportunity to formulate a supplementary response to the Scottish Government consultation on UNCRC Incorporation and the role of youth work in fulfilling its aims.

This seminar will encourage input and reflection on the principles of the UNCRC and the role of youth work, as well as any potential impacts as we move towards incorporation. It will be a fantastic opportunity to provide a supplementary response to Scottish Government following on from Maree Todd MSPs update.
